7 Crucial Poker Tips You Cannot Win Without

1. Develop strong starting hand requirements. Choose what hands you play and stick to them as best as possible. A tight player should only play mid-to-high pocket pairs, high suited connectors and high suited face cards. Loose players can play more hands but unless reckless play is your playing style (which in my experience isn't very profitable) you need to buckle down on your starting hands.

2. Take into account your position at the table relative to the dealer and the blinds. If you act within the first two to three positions after the big blind than you should play your tightest game here. Play the lowest number of hands in this area of the table because you will be out of the position the rest of the hand and will have to act with minimal information about your other opponents. Once you enter middle positon which are the two to three spots after first position you can loosen up a little bit but still keep it fairly tight. Once you reach late position which is the button and the one or two spots to the right of the button, you can play your loosest game here to take advantage of your position. In the blinds I suggest playing similar hand requirements as late position but if it folds around and only the dealer calls or its just you and the big blind fold only the worst of hands.

3. When you make a raise pre-flop do not ever raise based on the strength of your hands (ex. raising 5x the blind with aces but 2-3x with 10s). Your raises should be based on table position and the amount of players in the pot. If its a family pot, it is going to take a bigger raise to drive them out due to being offered pot odds. In earlier position you can safely raise less and as you get to later position your raises can get to the 5x the big blind range. I wouldn't suggest going higher than 5x the big blind unless its multiway and you have a monster that you don't want a lot of players against. Remember, you don't want aces or kings in a multiway pot, try to get it down to at most 2-3 players.

4. After making a pre-flop raise, if the action checks to you it is wise to make a bet around 1/2 the pot (make sure to vary it just to keep opponents guessing) whether or not your hand hits, that way your opponents can't think "He checks when he misses and only bets when he hits." This strategy is called making a continuation bet. For example, you have A-K the flop comes 2-5-9 you make a bet. Make a similar sized bet even with a flop of A-2-7. That way opponents won't know when you have it and you are more likely to get paid.

5. When you flop a monster hand like trips, straight or flush its often a profitable strategy to check it to your opponents and let them bet then smooth call when action comes back to you. Repeat this on the turn and then if you think your monster held up you can either bet if you think your opponent will check the river or check it one more time then put in a value raise over the top to try to get a little bit more out of it. This strategy is known as slow playing or trapping. Be cautious though, if you flop trips or a straight and theres better draws on the board like two hearts or even three hearts than you may want to speed up and price opponents out from getting a cheap card to make their flush.

6. When you think or know you're beat then fold. Unless you're being offered ridiculous pot odds to call than just discipline yourself and make the fold. Great players learn to lay down great hands. If you have trouble knowing when you're beat than perhaps you should play a very tight game until you improve so that way you are ahead of opponents most of the time.

7. Do NOT ever give a free cards when you make a hand on the flop. The only exception is if it is a very safe flop for a monster hand that is unlikely to be beaten on later streets. You don't want to give a free card that beats you when a bet might have gotten them off the draw.

First, the Golfer must know which direction the wind is blowing. How strong the wind is blowing is also important. If there is a strong wind blowing on the course, how much the Golfer tries to hit the ball will be irrelevant unless the wind is behind them. In this case, the Golfer should try to get the ball higher off the ground and let the winds carry the ball. This is especially true on a drive.

Let's imagine. The wind is fairly strong coming in from the right, and the Golfer is at the tee staring at a par 3 hole approximately 150 yards from the tee to the intended hole. What can the Golfer expect when Golfing under these conditions? Well, hitting the ball directly toward the hole will result in much disappointment when the Golfer sees the ball blown to the left side of the hole. Depending on course's slope, the ball could roll completely off the green, requiring a chip shot in an attempt to save par. On the contrary, a smart Golfer would consider the wind and plan the shot in accordance with the Golf weather at hand.

Here's another scenario. The Golfer is teeing off a 387 yard par 4 hole with a strong wind blowing straight ahead into his or her face. This can help the Golfer still get a decent drive despite the wind. This strategy for altering his or her stance must be taken at each shot to keep the ball at a low level. Mortgage Forgiveness Act Provides Income Tax Relief To Foreclosed Homeowners

What's positive about being foreclosed upon or selling your home for less than you owe? Well, for most people, not much. Yes, you are relieved of an onerous mortgage loan and you are now free to find housing that is more affordable within your budget. But not everyone fully understands the lingering effects of a foreclosure as it pertains to the mortgage debt forgiveness. This applies to foreclosures, short sales and a deed in lieu of foreclosure.

Foreclosure can be one of the most devastating things a homeowner can face. At a minimum, they will end up with damaged credit. Until recently, the tax laws further penalized homeowners who were relieved of mortgage debt obligations with additional taxation. Homeowners owe taxes on the amount of the debt obligation from which they are relieved. For example, let's look at a short sale. If a bank agreed to accept $200,000 as payment in full to satisfy a mortgage where the homeowner owed $250,000, the homeowner would owe taxes on $50,000. They were relieved of repaying $50,000 in mortgage debt. When you are relieved of debt, you are actually benefiting because you no longer have the obligation to pay it back. Hence you must pay tax on this "unrealized income" even if there was no direct corresponding benefit, such as equity proceeds from a sale. At the same time, how is the homeowner who just lost everything going to be able to pay tax on the differential of the satisfied mortgage obligation when they received no tangible proceeds from the sale?

As we have just seen, the amount of debt forgiveness is considered income. All debt forgiveness, not just mortgage debt, results in reportable taxable income. Many people who've walked away from their homes have found this out the hard way. Many found out at the end of the year when they opened their mail and found they'd received a 1099C. The 1099C is the IRS form that the creditor gives the debtor when they have forgiveness of debt.

Today we have a record number of foreclosures. When banks and lenders sell homes they've gotten back during the foreclosure process they are less concerned about the bottom line and more concerned about being rid of the collateral. This can result in spiraling downward values in areas or communities where foreclosures are high. Large numbers of foreclosures like we are currently experiencing are hurting our overall real estate market valuations.

One solution to the problem has been to encourage those homeowners in distress to work with the bank to sell the home while they continue to occupy the property. This may result in a short sale, whereby the bank agrees to accept less than is owed on the outstanding mortgage. Together, the bank and homeowner work to sell at the highest possible price given the conditions of the prevailing market. Working together allows the home to be maintained and occupied during the course of the sale. This generally is less costly to the lender and is one of the reasons why they entertain short sales.

In general, short sales are less "shocking" to the market values in comparison to a lender going through the foreclosure process and then reselling the property as an REO. This should be encouraged where possible.

Tax wise, homeowners still receive a 1099C. From a credit report perspective, the lender usually won't report a foreclosure against the homeowner if they sell with a short sale. A short sale in that instance will be beneficial to the seller's credit and may be helpful when the seller becomes a buyer and wants to obtain another mortgage in the future.

In Minnesota we have a unique situation regarding foreclosures. For owner occupied properties, we have a 6 month right of redemption from the date of the Sheriff's sale. Because of the long redemption period, during which no payments are due, many in Minnesota are opting to be foreclosed upon instead so they can live in the home for free. You see this occurring most often where preservation of a one's credit rating is no longer important to the homeowner.

To encourage lenders and homeowners to work together, the government has just created a new law. The law is H.R. 3648, entitled Mortgage Forgiveness Act of 2007 and was signed into law as of mid December 2007. Here's what the law does: it waives taxes for debts forgiven from the beginning of 2007 to the end of 2009. This means no more 1099C, at least during this time frame.

Can you see the implications? This means that homeowners and lenders can work together to either sell or refinance the existing mortgage debt, without having to recognize the taxes due on the amount forgiven. It provides an incentive to protect your credit and work out an acceptable solution, such as a short sale. Income taxes are taken out of the equation since there isn't anymore inherent tax liability from mortgage forgiveness.

This should slow down the foreclosure crisis and allow values to stabilize. This is a good law that should help ease the mortgage and real estate crisis we are facing today.

The Subprime Mortgage Meltdown? Blame it on the Banks Who Believed Their Own Lies

As the banks have become aware of just how much bad lending has been going on over the past five years, they have begun taking drastic measures to cut down their exposure to the subprime mortgage mess. Many lenders have gone out of business, filed bankruptcy, or stopped making loans to unqualified applicants, but this has caused a general drying up of credit in the economy. The subprime debacle is leading directly to a much more generalized credit meltdown, as homeowners in trouble will be unable to refinance their homes to save them from a financial hardship, and they will fall further and further behind on all of their bills. A quick refinance to consolidate and lower bills is simply not an option for a great number of homeowners now.

Banks are not even lending to each other very much right now. Many of the large banks, such as Chase, GMAC, and Washington Mutual, although they were not large players in directly lending to loan applicants in the subprime market, were voracious buyers of these loans. They would buy large numbers of bad loans, package them, and sell them to investors or hedge funds managers, who believed the returns would justify the enormous risks involved.

However, the mistake was in believing that real estate prices would just keep rising; if the homeowners with the bad loan defaulted, the banks would simply sell the property for a huge gain. Whether the owners made the payments or not, the investors would make money in a steeply rising real estate market. Of course, these geniuses failed to realize that large numbers of foreclosures would inevitably lower the home values in areas hit hard by defaulted loans. Once this happened, the charade could not last much longer and everyone realized just how toxic are loans made to people who could not afford to pay them back.

Now, with trillions of dollars of bad mortgage debt floating through the economy, banks are desperately attempting to reduce their exposure to the risks. If another bank requests to borrow money from a large lender, what is the reason? Because they are experiencing a short-term liquidity problem, or because the only way to stay in business for another few days is borrowing money that they will eventually default on once their mortgage clients default in even large numbers?

No one even really knows who owns these subprime mortgages, so every lending decision by a bank to another bank is now consumed by a fog of suspicion and distrust, which explains why credit is still scarce despite the Federal Reserve's repeated lowering of the interest rate and direct injections of newly-printed money into the economy.

Of course, all of this reduction of risk, refusal to lend money to homeowners in trouble, and direct involvement in the economy by the central bank just leads to more problems for homeowners. They are unable to figure out who owns their mortgage, because the loan has been sold numerous times and is now in the hands of some hedge fund who sells the servicing rights to another company which then sells those rights to various other companies. Even courts now are throwing out some of these foreclosure because the plaintiffs can not prove their own the loan; while this is a positive development for homeowners, it does not allow the mortgage contract to be performed as written and leads to more confusion as to just what is going on with these subprime loans.

The homeowners are unable qualify for a loan to fix their problems temporarily, because banks are no longer lending money to people in their financial situations. And they can not even afford to keep up with rising prices any longer, as the Federal Reserve inflates the money supply, decreases the purchasing power of the dollar, and bails out banks directly. While no one party should get a direct bailout, the fact that the banks are getting it just to prop up their bottom lines for the short term will not do a single thing to provide help to homeowners falling behind. They still do not qualify for a new loan, whether the lenders have been given free money or not.

And the new money given to the lenders just increases the possibility of more foreclosures, which increases the chances that the banks will request more bailouts in the future, leading to more inflation and more foreclosures, and so on. This cycle of stealing purchasing power from the average consumer to give to the big banks because they may not make as high of profits as they once expected is no excuse for the act of stealing money from the homeowners to begin with. When the Federal Reserve, owned by the large banks to begin with, prints money to give to the large banks, this is nothing but outright theft from homeowners. As the money supply increases, money becomes worth less, but those who have access to the newly-created money can continue to prosper at the expense of those who do not.

With bad lending practices, absolutely confusing loan paperwork and unclear chains of ownership, and continually relying on inflation to bail them out of these poor decisions, the banks have been shooting themselves and their clients in the foot at every opportunity. Extracting as much profit as possible from the people through lies and manipulations is one thing; believing their own lies is entirely another. Of course, it always helps when the banks do not have to worry about things like accountability or being punished in the market. After all, they exercise inordinate control over the market through interest rates and money supply, and will begin the next bubble after the currently bursting one's fallout has been cleaned up.

Fed cuts rates, hints at pause

The Federal Reserve has cut its key interest rate by a quarter percentage point, but the central bank's statement signaled it may be the last rate cut for at least a while, CNNMoney.com reports. It is the seventh cut since September, and it comes as the Fed is trying to balance between fears of recession and inflation.

In November 2005, Montgomery County, Maryland's county council enacted legislation to expand the categories of discriminatory lending activities associated with discriminatory housing practices and increased the maximum fine for such activities from $5,000 to $500,000. The council sited practices such as charging inordinate amounts for prepayment penalties, points, and fees; steering borrowers toward more expensive mortgages; and refinancing existing mortgages with new ones that borrowers won't be able to repay based on their income or credit.

Predatory lenders typically target whats known as the nonprime mortgage market, where people with blemished credit records try to borrow money for homes in less desirable neighborhoods, which means that it's often minority groups, such as African-Americans and Latinos, who are the victims of predatory lending practices.

However, February 2006, the American Financial Services Association (AFSA), challenged the ruling, contending that only the state has the power to enact legislation regarding mortgage lending practices--although the AFSA went on record as opposing discriminatory and abusive lending practices. The new law was supposed to take effect the second week in March, but mortgage lender lawyers persuaded a judge to delay the new law, pending a hearing. So it's yet to be determined if the Montgomery County law will remain on the books.

Regardless of the outcome in Montgomery County, however, predatory lending practices are illegal in most states. The Center for Responsible Lending describes a number of such practices on their website. Some of them include loan flipping, in which the borrower is forced to refinance a loan, sometimes several times, solely for the purpose of generating new fees for the lending institution. Another common practice is insisting that borrowers also purchase such things as credit life insurance or other products--again, primarily designed to generate more income for the lender.

The bottom line is that there are lending institutions that make a great deal of money by charging extra fees to those borrowers who can least afford them, thereby either depriving those borrowers of the American dream of home ownership or, worse yet, setting them up for eventual foreclosure.

As the real estate market slows down and interest rates creep up, it's more important than ever to become a knowledgeable consumer. Learn the basics of mortgage lending, so you'll know when you're being charged too much for a loan or for things you don't need. Shop around to see what's available, and then make sure you're comfortable with your loan payment, because you'll be paying that amount for many years.

Reuters - Counting started on Tuesday in a census seen as a vital step towards holding democratic elections in Sudan after a landmark 2005 north-south peace deal.

A debt settlement attorney specializes in negotiating with creditors to reduce the amount of debt the individual must repay. They will contact each one of your creditors and each collection agency to stop the late fees, penalties, and premiums building up on all accounts. The debt settlement attorney will establish agreements so that the credit card companies and collection agencies will contact the attorney instead of the consumer. It is also the responsibility of the debt settlement attorney to obtain the consumers credit report and work to remove any misleading, unsubstantiated, or incorrect items. This is a very important service that should be utilized by the consumer to restore credit ratings and create a plan for future financial management.

Using a debt settlement attorney is vastly different from credit counseling. It can be risky to your credit, but if your credit is already destroyed you may have little to lose and more to gain by settling outstanding debt. Debt settlement is much more aggressive than credit counseling, and it can get you out of debt in half the time of credit counseling. Many states have laws regulating debt negotiation companies. To see if your state permits debt settlement, contact your state Attorney General.

If you ignore the debt long enough, you stand a good chance of never hearing from the creditor again. Seven years after the debt is written off, the negative listing disappears from your report altogether. But if you pay the debt sometime before the end of that period, the seven year cycle starts all over again, not exactly what one would call an incentive. It's like getting time added to your sentence for good behavior.

Fortunately, creditors make their money by collecting the debts, not by reporting negative credit information. Creditors recognize this catch-22, and are therefore often willing to delete the negative listing upon settlement. If you are going to settle with a creditor, be sure to have your debt settlement attorney negotiate removal of the listing from your report.

Keep in mind that using a debt settlement attorney usually applies to unsecured debts like credit cards, medical bills and department store cards. Things like mortgages, student loans, alimony and child support fall into the category of secured debts and there is usually not much that a debt settlement attorney can do with these types of debts.

In debt mediation the consumer confers his mediator with a limited power of attorney to work out lump sum settlements on specified debts at reduced amounts. The consumer ceases their credit card payments and instead pays the mediator an agreed amount monthly to fund settlements.

Debt mediation addresses the amount owed (principal) as well as interest and fees, sometimes reducing the total obligation to as much as 40% of the original debt. Creditors prefer such settlements to the risk of bankruptcy and report such settlements "paid as agreed" on the consumer's credit record.

Your credit could, however, be affected in a negative manner. Some creditors will not mark their debt paid as agreed, and it will remain on your credit report for a number of years. Consumers still opt for debt settlement because they find it preferable to bankruptcy. Usually, the way it is reported on your credit record involves the words "Settled" or "Settled as Agreed" or "Paid as Agreed". However, all the late payments may remain on your credit report until the statute of limitations runs out. At that point, credit repair might help to remove the negative marks if the reporting creditor fails to provide documented proof to the reporting agency

A Georgia military contractor tricked law enforcement agencies into buying faulty stun grenades, which ultimately left three FBI agents seriously injured, federal prosecutors said today. Lawyers, also called attorneys, act as both advocates and advisors in our society. As advocates, they represent one of the parties in criminal and civil trials by presenting evidence and arguing in court to support their client. As advisors, lawyers counsel their clients concerning their legal rights and obligations and suggest particular courses of action in business and personal matters. Although all lawyers are licensed to represent parties in court, some appear in court more frequently than others. Trial lawyers, who specialize in trial work, must be able to think quickly and speak with ease and authority. In addition, familiarity with courtroom rules and strategy is particularly important in trial work. In addition, they represent clients interests in administrative adjudications.

Some lawyers concentrate in the growing field of intellectual property, helping to protect clients claims to copyrights, artwork under contract, product designs, and computer programs. Still other lawyers advise insurance companies about the legality of insurance transactions, writing insurance policies to conform with the law and to protect companies from unwarranted claims.

Most lawyers are found in private practice, where they concentrate on criminal or civil law. In criminal law, lawyers represent individuals who have been charged with crimes and argue their cases in courts of law. Attorneys dealing with civil law assist clients with litigation, wills, trusts, contracts, mortgages, titles, and leases. Other lawyers handle only public-interest casescivil or criminalwhich may have an impact extending well beyond the individual client.

These issues might involve patents, government regulations, and contracts with other companies, property interests, or collective-bargaining agreements with unions.

Mortgage cycling is a program that advertises itself as a method to payoff your mortgage in 10 years or less without making biweekly mortgage payments or changing your current mortgage. Does mortgage cycling work as advertised? The answer is unequivocally yes with a few caveats. I'm going to let you in on the secret to mortgage cycling.

Mortgage cycling is based on making huge lump sum principal payments every 6-10 months. What this means is mortgage cycling works well for those who have at least a few hundred dollars in extra cash at the end of each month. The problem is most people don't have that kind of cash available.

Mortgage Cycling relies on using a revolving Home Equity Line of Credit to make huge lump sum payments against their original mortgage principal balance. When you take out a home equity line of credit, you pay for many of the same expenses as when you financed your original mortgage such as an application fee, title search, appraisal, attorney fees, and points. You also may find most loans have large one-time upfront fees, others have closing costs, and some have continuing costs, such as annual fees. You could find yourself paying hundreds of dollars to establish a home equity line of credit. Most home equity lines of credit also carry what is known as interest rate risk.

Home equity line of credit interest rates are typically variable. The Federal Reserve is currently in the process of raising the overnight federal funds rate. As the Fed continues to raise rates, it is all but inevitable that variable interest rates for mortgages will also rise. Your savings may not be as great as anticipated.

While Mortgage Cycling does have some additional costs for most people, that is not what makes this mortgage reduction strategy risky. If you use a Home Equity Line of Credit and money gets tight, you could lose your home and the equity you have built up. Home equity lines of credit require you to use your home as collateral for the loan. This may put your home at risk if you are late or cannot make your monthly payments. And if you sell your home, most lines of credit require you to pay off your credit line at that time.

Mortgage Cycling requires you to make mortgage payments and Home Equity Line of Credit payments for up to 10 years. For most people mortgage cycling is an extremely risky way to payoff a mortgage. Mortgage cycling should be used only after a careful assessment of the risks and benefits. Prepaying your mortgage is smart. You should explore all of the mortgage reduction alternatives before choosing Mortgage Cycling as a mortgage reduction strategy.

Iraq leader: We can't become new Somalia

Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki is calling on political parties to unite against armed groups in Iraq, a spokesman said Sunday, warning that "Iraq cannot be the new Somalia."

It's an unfortunate fact that most students never get formal lessons in managing their credit and debt. For many young people, their first brush with being responsible credit card users won't come till they are in college - away from home and the guidance of mom and dad. The moment they step on campus, new college students will be wooed by major credit card companies, all of them eager to establish themselves as 'the first card in your wallet'.

If your child will be going off to college in the fall, one of the best things you can do for him or her is to get them started on the right foot to handling credit responsibly. Needless to say, example is the best way to teach. The more responsibly you handle your own credit card use, the more likely it is that they'll absorb your attitudes toward the use of credit cards.

Beyond that, though, one of the easiest ways to teach responsible credit card use is to cosign an application for one of the credit cards that is especially designed for student use - and do it before they're off on their own. Each major credit card line features at least one credit card that has low credit limits ($500 to $1000), no annual fee and a moderate APR.

Make a big deal about applying for the credit card. Explain to them that each credit card application they fill out will be noted on their credit report - high school students especially understand the concept of a 'permanent record' - and that the more credit cards they apply for, the worse their 'permanent record' will become. That way, when they hit campus, they'll be forewarned against the myriad credit card companies telling them 'it's no big deal'.

Show them how to compare credit cards and figure out what credit will actually cost them. Make sure that they understand what a 'late payment' is, and how it will affect the charges on their credit card. When they understand that making a payment late will add $29 to their bill this month, AND increase their APR so that every bill from now on will be higher, they're far more likely to appreciate the significance of making payments on time.

Finally, before turning them loose with a credit card, take the time to sit down with them and work out a loose budget they can follow. Then make a monthly date to sit down and go over the credit card bill and credit card receipts together. You'll be able to monitor spending and help them work out ways to stay within budget while still paying off their credit card properly.

It's a common aphorism that it takes only 7 days to establish a new habit. Take a few months before your student heads off to college to help them establish good, responsible credit card habits. It's a lesson that will last them the rest of their lives.

AP - Isiah Thomas couldn't win as coach with the players he assembled as president. Now, he's lost both jobs. Thomas was fired as the New York Knicks coach Friday after a season of listless and dreadful basketball, a tawdry lawsuit and unending chants from fans demanding his dismissal.

Next, increase your income.

Take up a supplementary job now. Even if you see your budget is affording your minimum credit card bills, you must increase your income so that you can get out of the indebtedness faster. You can think of a work-at-home job that requires no investment (search on the Internet, there are plenty of freelance jobsites you can register on for free) or take up a part time job somewhere. Do not invest any money, especially in hazy places like the stock market. You need to be sure you are getting returns at the end of the day.

Now, get some debt counseling done.

When you have done all of this, scout around for a good debt counselor. Look on the Internet for genuine providers and speak with them. Remember that your situation is already improving due to your own efforts of points 1 and 2, so now the counselors will be more enthusiastic in solving the larger problem. They will suggest you some ways by which you can get out of your debt forever. Yes, forever! One of these ways is credit card debt consolidation, also known as credit card debt refinancing. Here, they will offer to repay all your dues to the various credit card companies, and you have to only make payments to the consolidators. This is a good workable plan, because your interest rate decreases significantly, and you make only one lump sum payment a month, so you can manage it better. Ah, you are acting already... but with everything into place, you must become more aggressive to seek your credit debt solution faster. You have to make your payment to the consolidators still, but with your planned budget and added income (and also lowered payments), this becomes easier.

Investigator says girls pregnant in polygamist sect (AP)

AP - After hours of lawyers popping up with similar objections and questions, a custody hearing for 416 children seized from a polygamist sect finally turned to whether they were abused: A child welfare worker said some women at the sect's ranch may have had children when they were minors, some as young as 13.

At their inception credit cards were reserved almost exclusively for the financially elite. They were originally meant to extend the buying power of those who did not want to bother handling that pesky cash or the indignity of having to write a check. Look at us now, McDonalds reported last year that "plastic" will soon over-take cash transactions at their windows. Who-da thunk it?

However, convenience does come at a price. Visa, based in San Francisco, benefits as shoppers worldwide are beginning to rely more on credit and debit cards instead of cash and cheques to make payments and they get a "taste" (to be said in your best Tony Soprano voice) of every transaction. Guess who gets a cut, your local bank that issued the card to you. Guess who pays these fees, the retailer and ultimately the consumer.

Visa announced, they are preparing for their first IPO (initial public offering of stock) reports say that Visa may raise up to $US18.8 billion in the largest US initial public offering. Traders are astounded that in these times of unsteady financial markets and a global credit crunch that any financial based company could pull this off. But investors are optimistic and eagerly waiting as consumers trade mortgages for plastic. The bright spot in the plastic invasion is good ole' capitalism and competition.

The previously mentioned financial elite are not the only people who enjoy great credit card offers now. A large percentage of Americans have dropped in credit levels based on an up and down economy and the banking fiasco. These consumers are a large percentage of the banks income. So, instead of turning consumers away with the same awful credit cards of yester-year they are building better credit cards for fair credit consumers. Having a bump or bruise on your credit in the past meant you were only offered "secured" credit cards with outrageous rates and fees on your on money!

Now days a god portion of credit card consumers with fair credit can enjoy credit cards offering 11.9% interest rates, 0% balance transfers and no annual fees. Credit cards for fair credit card holders have certainly come a long way. Of coarse, they come with tricky little features that allow the credit card companies to return to their obnoxious roots if you pay late. All in all though, if are looking for a good credit card while you work on improving your credit rating they are out there if you look around.

A foot note to the IPO that Visa is preparing for; In 2006 when the 2nd largest credit card company in the world MasterCard did their IPO shares rose $7, or 18%, to $46 on the New York Stock Exchange almost immediately. The shares were priced at $39 each, and the initial public offering raised $2.4 billion. They are now trading at $195.00 at the time of this article. Investors are watching this trade closely.
